The discipline of "Public Health and Preventive Medicine" of Shandong First Medical University (Shandong Academy of Medical Sciences) is formed by the School of Public Health and Health Management, Shandong Institute of Occupational Health and Prevention of Occupational Diseases and Shandong Centre for Disease Control and Prevention. At present, it has one provincial collaborative innovation centre of higher education, one provincial key laboratory of higher education, two provincial key laboratories of medicine and health, one national key clinical specialty (occupational disease), four provincial key disciplines of medicine and health, one national first-class undergraduate major, two provincial first-class undergraduate majors, and two provincial high-level applied construction majors, and it has already formed the "provincial and ministerial key laboratories It has formed a professional platform of "provincial and ministerial-level key laboratory + master's degree in the first-level discipline of public health and preventive medicine + professional degree master's degree in public health".
The discipline has a strong faculty with 60 members, including 38 senior titles, 45 full-time teachers, 32 PhDs, including 9 national and provincial talents such as National Outstanding Youth Fund recipients, special post experts of Changjiang Scholars Incentive Scheme, young and middle-aged specialists with outstanding contributions to the country, young Yangtze River scholars, and recipients of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, etc., which is the highest level of talents in the provincial Schools and universities.
The discipline has a number of provincial and ministerial-level platforms and master's degree programmes in the first-level discipline of public health and preventive medicine, and master's degree programmes in public health, and has formed four characteristic development directions, including infectious disease epidemiology, labour health and occupational diseases, etc., and the research on infectious disease epidemiology is at the international advanced level. 2013 till now, the discipline has taken part in the research on all the national outbreaks of new infectious disease outbreaks, which covers the newly infected avian influenza virus, Ebola virus, new coronavirus, and the new coronavirus. Ebola virus, new coronavirus, etc., and the research results have been published in Lancet (2013, 2020), Nature (2015, 2018), Science

To serve the "Belt and Road" strategy, the department has cooperated with Russia and Central Asia to carry out research on infectious diseases; to serve the "Healthy China 2030 Strategy", the department has cooperated with CDC to build a database of the whole genome sequence of viruses in China and an online molecular typing system, which will be promoted and used by CDC nationwide after the completion of the system. Research on endemic diseases has obvious characteristics and advantages at home and abroad. For the first time, the discipline has clarified the current situation and characteristics of the epidemiological status and characteristics of Tibetan macrosomia, deeply explored the relationship between deoxynivalenol and macrosomia, and effectively controlled macrosomia through large-scale field test of grain exchange, which has won the Second Prize of Scientific and Technological Advancement in Shandong Province and Tibet, and has been cited as a case for teaching in the 8th edition of Hygienic Statistics published by the People's Health Publishing House.
